The harvest is an ancient practice that keeps the wine producers busy during the month of September, and which starts the season that will culminate in the creation of new wines. In the Vall de Pop we want to share this event with you which for us is a reason for celebration. We have organised a grape harvest and a dinner party.
The Asociación Turístico Empresarial Tot Vall de Pop (ATEVAP) together with Bodegas Riko Xaló and Carnes y Embutidos Galán collaborate in this initiative that will take place on September 14th, in an evening during which the full moon will accompany us to add more romanticism to the event. Oscar Mestre, future winemaker of the fourth generation of a family of winemakers from Xaló, will guide us through the path and process of the harvest in the fields owned by Bodegas Riko Xaló.
The route will start at 8pm from the winery, located in Xaló, and then take us to the vineyard and proceed with the grape harvest. Then, once again in the winery, we will proceed with the squeezing of the grapes which is the second stage in the production of the wine. We do this with the most typical system: the treading of the grapes.
And to finish the evening we propose a dinner with a traditional menu of cured meats and other typical products from our gastronomy.
The night harvest was more frequent in certain areas where intense heat in the middle of the day discouraged this activity, to ensure that the grapes maintain an adequate temperature before being squeezed. However, currently the wineries have refrigeration equipment that correct the extremes of temperature of the grapes.
